Today's Lesson From The Craft Room: Along With Loss Comes A Focus On What Is Still Living
It has been almost one week (I am writing this on Thursday evening) since the passing of my beautiful Willow. It has been a week of grief with moments of peace. For those of you that have left comments, sent cards, or kept us in your thoughts and prayers, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means so much to us and I know that it helps us heal. I know I will be grieving for a while. I know I will have my ups and downs. I know some days I won't want to get out of bed and some days I will want to take life on with energy and determination. I am not sure what my posting schedule will be moving forward through this period. The time away has been healing and today I felt the need to say something - to share something. I will be here when I am. That is all I can ask of myself right now. What I am learning is that along with loss comes a focus on what is still living. I find myself focused on the care we provide to the birds in the backyard, our beautiful canine companion Buddy, the bees in the bee bath, the worms that I find on walks (yes, I will relocate them if they are in the road and don't look like they will make it to a yard). We are also focused on the care of our yard - planting bulbs in Willow's memory. And today we had another reason to focus on our gardens...news that the temperatures will drop to freezing here tonight. We trimmed a few of our potted plants and brought them in to winter indoors. And out we went with the tarps, sheets, random pieces of material and large clips, to try to save our tomato plants from the freeze (it is supposed to warm up again in a few days). Here's what parts of the yard look like right now...it makes me smile:
Yes, along with loss comes a focus on what is still living...
Today's Friday Folds project is an envelope that I made using the Simply Scored Diagonal Tool! I created a small 3x3 card using the Chevron embossing folder, the Itty Bitty Banners stamp set, and the Four Frames stamp set and decided the card needed a little envelope. Envelopes are so easy to make with the diagonal tool! I decided to use a piece of card stock (you can definitely use designer series paper just as easily). I began with a piece of 5x5 Crumb Cake card stock and scored the card stock on the diagonal, in all four corners, at 2 1/4". I folded on the score lines and glued the flaps together. A touch of stamping finishes the envelope. I can seal it with a glue dot, glue, maybe even a few brads tied with twine...we'll see :) I hope you like it and I hope you have a peaceful weekend focusing on those you love (and that includes yourself!).
